Singer Barry Manilow revealed on Monday that he will undergo surgery to remove a cancerous spot on his lung that was discovered after he finished a run of Christmas concerts.
Manilow said that after recovering from six weeks of bronchitis and a five-week relapse, he went to his doctor for a check-up. It was there that the doctor discovered "a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed," but Manilow reassured his fans that he won't have to undergo chemotherapy or a very long recovery process.
"The bad news is that now that the Christmas A Gift of Love concerts are over, I'm going into surgery to have the spot removed," he wrote on Instagram. "The doctors do not believe it has spread and I'm taking tests to confirm their diagnosis. So, that's it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and 'I Love Lucy' reruns."
He added, "The only follow-up is a month to recover and that means we have to reschedule the January arena concerts."
He also announced that several of his upcoming 2026 concerts will have to shift dates to accommodate his surgery and recovery.
"I'm very sorry that you have to change your plans. Just like you, we were all looking forward to the January shows and hate having to move everything around," he wrote. "In the meantime, I'm counting the days until I return to my home away from home at the Westgate Las Vegas for our Valentine's weekend concerts on February 12-13-14 and throughout 2026."
On a lighter note, he added: "I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. And remember, if you have even the slightest symptom...get tested! I'll see you at the Westgate Las Vegas for Valentine's!"
