The It: Chapter Two and The Wire actor married his wife, Jamie McPhee, in September 2017. After welcoming two kids together, McPhee shared many glimpses of their family life on social media before Ransone's death at 46 years old. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, he died on Dec. 19 by an apparent suicide.
In the wake of his death, a GoFundMe page, set up to support McPhee and their children and pay tribute to Ransone, described the late actor as an "extraordinary father."
"His wife, Jamie, known by her friends as Skipper, and their children, Jack and Violet, were the center of his world," the page read. "They loved him infinitely, and he loved them just as fiercely in return. Their bond was deep, joyful, and unmistakable to anyone who witnessed it."
Here's everything to know about James Ransone's family, including his wife and two kids.
While Ransone grew his career in front of the camera, McPhee has been working behind the scenes as a creative consultant for more than two decades, per her LinkedIn.
Prior to that, McPhee received her bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and worked as a copywriter for several years.
Ransone kept his romance fairly out of the spotlight, though McPhee has been sharing photos of him on Instagram since as early as 2011 -- and called him her "dreamdate 24/7" in a 2015 post.
The pair got married on Sept. 23, 2017, in Rosewood Beach on Lake Michigan, McPhee shared on Instagram.
Ransone and McPhee became parents on May 5, 2019, when they welcomed their first child, son Jack, the new mom shared on Instagram a few days later.
"Happy Mother's Day to me," she captioned the post, revealing Jack's name and birthdate. "We couldn't love you more and you're by far the best idea we ever had."
Their family expanded two years later on May 11, 2021, when Ransone and McPhee welcomed daughter Violet.
"Say hi to Violetπ Born 5/11/21 π¦ 7lbs 14oz βοΈ20.5" tall πͺ," McPhee wrote on Instagram. "11 days ago you came into the world but it feels like you've been here all along. Dad, Jack and I couldn't love you more. πππ."
McPhee has frequently shared glimpses of parenthood on her Instagram, and referred to Ransone as a "rad dad."
In June 2022, McPhee shared a birthday tribute to Ransone on Instagram, writing, "Happy Birthday to the greatest dad of all time, my bold and brilliant husband PJ."
She also noted that she hopes their children "inherit [his] bravery."
A few days after Ransone's death, McPhee shared a heartfelt tribute to her late husband on Instagram, writing, "I told you I have loved you 1000 times before and I know I will love you again."
"You told me - I need to be more like you and you need to be more like me - and you were so right," she continued. "Thank you for giving me the greatest gifts - you, Jack and Violet. We are forever."
